PortMate-project
Safer sailing in guest harbors
Eco-friendly and resource-efficient service & increased safety in the ports
Kökar Havspaviljong and its guest harbor Hellsö is one of the 19 small ports that participate in the PortMate project. The participating ports in the pilot project form a triangle with Rauma in Finland, Kökar and Sottunga in Åland and Gävle and Söderhamn in Sweden. The project aims to increase safety in and access to guest harbors as well as enhance service level with eco-friendly and resource-efficient services. The triangle area has a great potential to attract visitors to both nature sites and attractions in the municipalities, thus the ports collaborate to create marketing campaigns. As the participants work together and with external actors to collect best practices and exchange their knowledge it becomes possible for the ports to advance their own action plan.
The project enables Kökar Havspaviljong to increase safety in the port by investment into the improvement of the docks including adding more lighting as well as a new weather station. The service level will be enhanced by means of renewed electricity and water connections on the docks, improved waste management and improved wifi through a fiber connection. A new service house with access to kitchen, new restrooms, showers and a new sauna will be built to provide better services for the guests. All of the actions in the project are driven by the aim to make the guest harbor more eco-friendly and resource-efficient.
PortMate is financed by the EU program Interreg Central Baltic.
